When winter is brutal, locals use the 5-mile underground pedway system connecting buildings downtown. Climate-controlled running with architectural interest. Bring a map first time.

Pilsen Mural Mile

Run through Pilsen neighborhood for incredible street art and murals. 3-4 mile loop. Stop at Cafe Jumping Bean for Mexican hot chocolate. Best on Sunday mornings.

North Branch Trail

While everyone crowds the Lakefront, this 20-mile trail along the Chicago River offers peaceful forest running within city limits. Spot deer, beavers, and herons. Access at Caldwell Woods.

Architectural Boat Tour Route

Run the Riverwalk following the architecture boat tour route. Pass under historic bridges and along both sides of the Chicago River. Combine with Michigan Avenue for 6-mile loop.
